Union Depot Station

This mural commemorates the Union Depot at 61 Ionia, a Georgian Revival station that was the heart of Grand Rapids from 1900 until its demolition in 1958–59. It honors the communities connected through the Depot and reflects the profound changes to the city brought by rail travel and mid-century urban renewal. This mural is part of Heartside Historic Murals, a project by Dwelling Place, celebrating the neighborhood’s untold history.
